| BOOKSHOPS SELLING BOOKS IN ENGLISH |
| Alibri
Conveniently located across the road from UB. It's foreign languages section
is at the back of the store. Balmes 26 (across from Barcelona University's central campus) |
BCN
Books: Don't judge this bookshop by its horrid website. The
shop on Roger de Lluria 118 isn't bad. Also has a "Cash and Carry"
shop especially useful for teachers and parents at the start of new academic
years. |
| Casa del
Libro Passeig de Gracia 62 Tel: |
Come
In:: One of the best-known bookshops for
English textbooks and decent selection of standard books too. Their website
seems to have more products than the store itself in terms of games and
other, so if you're after something in particular, call before to check
they have it in stock. |
| FNAC
(Triangle branch) FNAC has 3 branches in Barcelona, and all sell books in
English and all are pretty good although I personally think that the one
in Plaza Catalunya has the best (although most cramped) section of books
in English. Centro Comercial El Triangle Plaza Catalunya 4. Open: Mon-Sat 10:00am to 10pm. Metro: Plaza Catalunya (L1, L3) and FCG Tel: 933 441 800 |
| MOVIES IN ORIGINAL VERSION (ie: Not dubbed into Spanish..but with subtitles in Spanish) |
| Renoir-Floridablanca has four screens and shows up to eight independent, off-beat foreign and Spanish films per day. Metro: Sant Antoni (L2). |
| Verdi (Gracia) : Gracia has two cinema houses that show movies in original version, and just to confuse you, they bear very similar names. |
| Verdi Park and to confuse you, there’s another one around the corner, |
| Yelmo Icaria (Villa Olimpica): With 8 rooms, it is Barcelona's largest cinema complex for movies in original version. Metro: Ciutadella Villa Olimpica or Bogatell (L4). |
| PUBLICATIONS IN ENGLISH |
| Barcelona Connect: A competitor to the better know Metropolitan Magazine, holds its own weight. Whereas popularity has damaged the writing quality of its rival, Barcelona Connect's articles, if not as glammed up, are often better researched and |
| Metropolitan Magazine: The best know publication for foreigners living in Barcelona...used to be the best...now the quality of the writing is questionable, but the classifieds and ads section still make it worth getting...and it's FREE! Check website for distribution points of hard copies of magazine. |
